1) Libiamo - La Traviata - Verdi - Sarah Moulton Faux & Heejae Kim
Drink a toast to wine. You will find happiness and love in wine. It mellows the heart tosurrender.
Let's live for pleasure alone, since love, like flowers, swiftly fades.
Un dì felice - Violetta looks in the mirror and is shocked to see how pale she is. Alfredo
says she must take better care of herself. If she were his, he would watch over her all
her life. Violetta tells him that no one takes care of her; he answers that no one loves
her but he. Violetta laughs, saying that she had forgotten such a great love. He chides
her for being heartless, and if she had a heart, she would not make fun of him, for he
has loved her deeply for a year. But she can only offer him friendship,
and urges him to forget her.
2) Cortigiani - Rigoletto - Verdi - Jonathan R. Green
Rigoletto's daughter has been abducted by several courtiers and given to the Duke.
When Rigoletto tries to pass them to find his daughter, they will not let him pass and he
releases his fury upon them.
3) Seguidille - Carmen - Bizet - Lara Tillotson
Army officer Don José has arrested Carmen for fighting. Carmen flirts with him hoping
he will free her. She sings of a tavern outside of Seville, run by Lillias Pastia, where she
goes to dance and sing. She'll meet her lover there, one of the many who admire her.
4) Il lacerato spiritu - Simon Boccanegra - Verdi - John Dominick III
Fiesco, the nobleman, sings sorrowfully that his daughter Maria has died. He rages
against the absent Simon Boccanegra, the Doge of Venice, and then accuses the
Virgin Mary of not protecting his daughter. After realizing that he has committed
blasphemy, he prays to her, hoping that she will forgive him.
5) Fantaisie Impromptu - Chopin - Julian Villanueva Raheb
6) Je veux vivre - Romeo et Juliet - Gounod - Sarah Moulton Faux
Juliet sings of the freedom and joys of her youth. She would love to live in this
daydream that intoxicates her, a sweet flame which she keeps in her heart like a
treasure. Alas, this rapture of youth lasts only a day. Once love comes, happiness
flees. She must enjoy this dream and youth before they fade.
7) Ach so Fromm - Martha - Flotow - Heejae Kim
“She appeared so meek, so comforting. Her image pressed into my heart. Before she
came, grief enveloped my future. But with her, a new joyful existence bloomed for me.
What I found disappeared. I was awakened, and the night robbed me of the sweet
dream. Martha! Martha! You vanished, and you took my happiness with you; give back
what you found, or share it with me.”
8) Largo al factotum – The Barber of Seville - Rossini - Jonathan R. Green
The clever barber Figaro boasts of his manifold talents – not all of which involve
haircutting – and his popularity among his many clients. He’s the most famous barber
in Seville. He has his barber tools, and is always ready for shaves, dressing wigs, hair,
and his help with the ladies. Everyone calls on him. “One at a time”!
